FISH DIRECTORY / SPECIMEN 14

Lake Sturgeon.

Rows of bony plates define the highest-value fish in the collection.

Recognise the fish in detail

Rows of bony plates, a long snout and an unevenly shaped tail give the lake sturgeon its distinctive profile. This specimen is easy to separate from the smoother fish in the directory. It also carries the largest base award in the original catch list.

Use this close view to learn the outline before returning to the moving water. The picture identifies a species; it does not determine the outcome of a drop. That outcome depends on the original game’s alignment check, followed by the species value and any earned bonuses.

The species component of a catch

Lake Sturgeon starts at 720 points, the highest species value in Golden Current. It is the trophy-tier entry. A successful drop can add accuracy and sequence bonuses to that base, using the same calculation applied to every other caught fish.

At the catch check, the closest fish must lie within ten lane units of the boat. Keep that gap in view as you prepare the action. An attractive species or large base value cannot compensate for a drop made beyond the permitted distance.

What the spawning group actually means

Only lake sturgeon occupies the trophy group, which receives 2% of spawn selections. Its rarity and high value do not alter the catching distance. Even when a trophy appears, the boat must still be suitably aligned when the hook check occurs.

The fish available during a short voyage need not mirror the long-run proportions. Make the next decision from the actual school on screen, because no particular species is reserved for your remaining drops.
