Identify the species’ starting award
Each of the fourteen fish has its own starting value, spanning 85 points for bluegill through 720 for lake sturgeon. Tier membership determines the spawning group instead. Keeping those two ideas separate helps explain why fish from one tier can award different base amounts.
Calculate the contribution from alignment
The accuracy addition is round((10 − distance) × 8), using the lane distance between the boat and the caught fish. A zero gap yields 80 points. The fish must first satisfy the original ten-unit catching range; the formula does not rescue a drop outside it.
Consider a pumpkinseed caught three lane units away on the first catch of a sequence. Its 100-point base receives 56 accuracy points, calculated as (10 − 3) × 8, and no sequence addition yet. That catch therefore contributes 156 points.
Account for consecutive successful drops
The sequence addition begins at zero and advances by 26 on each further consecutive catch. Across six uninterrupted catches, the additions are 0, 26, 52, 78, 104 and 130. A miss breaks the run, so the next successful catch starts the sequence again.
For another example, a perfectly aligned third consecutive yellow perch catch earns 135 + 80 + 52 = 267 points. The three terms identify the species, accuracy and sequence components of the existing game, rather than introducing an alternative scoring system.
